Post subject:  Cracks in hull

While cleaning and polishing my '78 H16 and getting ready for the season, I discovered two small cracks on the outside of the starboard hull. They're located about four inches above the keel.

I discovered these when I was waxing the hulls and noticed a little bit of waxing compound squeezing out from the cracks when I was vigorously polishing the compound off.

The cracks are a couple of inches long. There's a VERY little bit of flex in this area when I push in hard, so it's possible there's slight delamination going on.

To repair, do you guys figure I should do the gelcoat repair route, or squeeze a little flexible silicon on them?

Any input would be appreciated.

Fair winds,
Nick

I would open them up a little to see if it is just a crack in the gel coat, or if it goes deeper into the glass. If it is just in the gel coat, you should patch it up with a repair kit to keep water out of the laminate. If it goes deeper, it should definitly be repaired to keep a soft spot from developing.

You can check out some repairs I have done here:
