Post subject:  Canvas Trampoline - cleaning and reconditioning

I have an old Canvas Trampoline with no holes or tears but it's very stiff and badly stained with mould spots and grime - any ideas on cleaning and reconditioning it? Thanks, J

A scrub brush with a good detergent / oxalic acid bleach (Barkeeper's Friend, ZUD, etc.) will get the stains off.

Nothing will "recondition" it and make it more flexible.

I use a product called Shine Plus by Spartan of Maumee,Ohio on my tramp to recondition the fabric while in storage but wash it off before sailing.I still use my original white tramp, now 20 years old and thanks to Shine Plus. Bill 404 21SE

Was your trampoline stiff? I have this issue too with a white trampoline, it’s been sitting in the sun a long time. Appearance is perfect and it feels strong, but its really stiff, lost all flexibility.

Is there anything that can restore some flexibility to prevent it from cracking, or make it stronger?

The short answer is no.

Over time, the vinyl outgasses (that "plastic" smell) and undergoes UV degradation when exposed to sunlight. The chemical structure of the plastic is changed and becomes brittle.

So, I would imagine that, if you keep the tramp covered up and out of the sun, it will last much longer and stay flexible.

Take a look at Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop website. She has all kinds of skin care products that might work.
