Post subject:  Hobie 16 Hull Weight markings

I have been told that the weight of the hull is marked on the transom of the hulls (Usually covred up by the Gudgeons).

There are markings on both my hulls one says 70, the other says 71. I am not sure if there is another marking under the gudgeons). Does this mean my hull weight is 270/271 respectively?

Thanks,

Brent

Hy Brent, I have recently removed the gudgeons on my 04' worlds boat, and there was no marking underneath of it....

While they might be weight marks, I seriously doubt that it's 270/271 considering total boat weight is 320 lbs! :D

If I had to estimate, I'd say each hull weighs about 130 lbs by itself (unless they are like mine and half-full of rainwater).

Hmm could be weight in Kg - something around 70 kg should be correct.

DUH!!!

Your right. I meant 171/170 respectively, but even that doesn't seem right. So maybe it is just 71/70 which would come out to 141, then the weight of the frame, mast and sails etc would bring it to the fully rigged weight?

What SHOULD a dry H16 hull by itself weigh?

70 and 71 are the respective bare hull weights in pounds. Everything else on the boat adds up to around 180 to make the total of 320.

cheers
Bill
