Post subject:  Stubborn bolt rope and quick releases

I just bought an 1981 Hobie 16 and have a hard time hoisting the main. Any adivce? What kind of wax is best for helping me get the sail up?
I also heard that in the rigging, those ingenious quick release pins aren't sturdy enough to use for ocean sailing. I find this hard to believe. If its so, which ones should I not use quick releases on? And which are the best quick releases to buy?
thanks to all,
steve

I'd use Sailkote (McLube) for the luff track and the bolt rope. Sprays on, dries clear and doesn't attract dirt like waxes and some silicones.

I've used fast pins in my forestay for years, although it's been a long time since I sailed consistently in the ocean. They don't carry any load (the jib luff wire does), so I don't worry about them breaking. The type I use is the "push button" style, with the release at the head of the pin.
