| Post subject: | Best Way to Hoist a H16 |
I just moved my new-to-me Hobie 16 to dry storage at our yacht club. The mast can be left permanantly stepped, which is nice, but we have no boat ramp only a hoist. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the best way to rig lifting straps or whatnot to get the boat into the water. I am considering getting some 1 1/2 inch nylon webbing and creating two 20 or 25 foot nylon loops, then just looping these around the pylons and the hook on the lifting block. I sure would appreciate advice from those who are more experienced though. Thanks in advance! |

I used to do that as well. Make two different length straps. They would be a forward set and a rear set. (You could also do 4 lines in 2 pairs). These all attach to the four pylon posts. I used 4 lines with bowlines on each end. I passed one end around each post and looped through the bowline then pulled around the forward cross bar or around the aft of the rear crossbar. All four hooked into the hoist's hook. 3-4 feet above the tramp and about 2 feet aft of the mast. The forward set has to be much shorter. The balance point is just aft of the mast. Make the hoist attachment 3-4 feet above the tramp and about 1-2 feet aft of the mast as I recall. Set up the rears so you can adjust the lengths fore and aft to find the balance point. |
