Vertical crack in hull, top cracked across

The hull is a layered composite. All you would be doing with this method is repairing the outer fiberglass layer, without addressing the foam core or inner fiberglass layer. They work as a system and are much stronger as a unified structure than as individual parts. I guarantee that you're not seeing all the damage here, too.

This boat cannot be restored to safe, sailing condition for any reasonable amount of money. You might as well buy a new(er) hull.

Simply slapping a fiberglass patch on the outside of the hull, no matter how many layers, is NOT the way to fix this. Clearly there is damage to the foam core and likely also damage to the inner skin which would all need to be repaired in order to make the hull seaworthy.

If the OP had the tools, materials, time, knowledge, and experience to do this repair properly himself, then it might be worthwhile to attempt fixing the hull. However, if that were the case, he wouldn't have needed to post a question about how to fix this in the first place. It is a repair that requires an expert.

To pay a professional to fix this hull properly would cost substantially more than the hull is worth. To put a bandaid patch on the damage would be a waste of time and money and be very risky.

In short, the hull is totalled.
