Post subject:  Main and Jib Halyard Rigging Lines - What to use?

So I picked up a 1981 H16 at the end of last season from a family friend. I'm trying to get the boat ready for this upcoming season and decided to replace all of the running rigging on the boat. According to the manual, the main and jib halyards should be replaced with 1/4 inch halyard line. 27' for the main and 20" for the jib. My questions is what type of line should I be using? what strength should I look for? should it be dacron or some other fancy material that I am unfamiliar with? Also, I'd like to purchase online if its going to be cheaper. Where is a good place to purchase line online? This is my first hobie and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Not sure about the material you want for the 16, but I do know that "Theropeguy1" on Ebay has great customer service and great prices... And 100% positive feedback on over 7800 sales...

The line part of the main halyard does not take any significant load other than raising the sail. You don't need anything fancy; Dacron double braid is the standard. You should thoroughly inspect the last part of the wire section (from the shackle to the stop) to make sure it's in good shape. After all, that's what's holding your sail up.

For the jib, a good, low-stretch Dacron double braid should work just fine.

1/4" is a bit large. 3/16" will work just as well, although it will be a bit harder on your hands.
