Hello everybody I am new to the Hobie forum. I bought a hobie 16 (it was my dad's) and am looking to find some new new places to sail in the Santa Cruz/San Francisco area.

I have sailed lakes but would love to bring my boat out in the Monterey/SF bay. Although I have a lot of experience surfing in Santa Cruz, I have not sailed in and out of the Santa Cruz harbor.

Does anybody sail in this area that could give me some good info or better yet meet up and sail?

I live in Campbell CA

Thanks!

Patrick

You can go to Santa Cruz beach, plenty of Hobie 16 are stored there, and a few are frequently sailing on the week ends. They will help you get started.

From Campbell, you can also drive to Redwood City. F18s are sailing there, few H16 also show up, as well as many other sail boats.

It is indeed a wonderful problem. In fact I visited the harbor and hooked up with a couple of people who store there 16's right on the beach. Looks like I'll be hitting the water soon.

Santa Cruz Harbor Beach is a great place to keep your boat. I had my 16 there a couple summers ago. Only issue is the beach-goers don't always respect the boats. I had a sticker put on mine once. Another time, I found a sleeping bag under my boat. But there was easy access to beach wheels and not having to drop the mast every outing saved tons of time.
Now I'm back in Utah and have to trailer to the lakes.

Yea not having to drop/raise the mast and haul the boat on a trailer sounds awesome. Just throw up the sails and go! That's my kind of sailing!

Hello Paticus,
For Santa Cruz you need to contact fleet 240
Don't go to the website contact Dwight M directly.
http://www.div3.hobieclass.com/

Come to the 16 /20 Nationals starting 6/17 in Sausalito.

There is also a Div 3 race in Santa Cruz on July 14 & 15th.

Round TI regatta (Alameda) will be held the end of July in the Bay.

Indeed!

I connected with Dwight last week and he got me connected with Stan from Fleet 240. We went for a sail over the weekend out of the Santa Cruz Harbor, it is awesome out there.

Thanks for the heads up on the races, I will definitely check out the Div 3 race in July. Are you going to be racing in either of those events?

Patrick
