I am back after a few years away as a new owner of a 1984 H16 (had a H17 and H18 in the past). I spent part of the time away owning a Lido14, what a waste of time! Anyway....

I noticed that my H16 tramp side rails are curved inwards on both sides of the tramp frame. I assume this is from pressure from the tramp being laced very tight. Is that what causes this? Should I be concerned?

the tighter the tramp the stiffer the boat so you want them to bend in.

Are they permanently bent? That wouldn't be good.

It's an old trick to get a tight tramp. You put a trailer strap around the cross bars. Tighten the strap to get a gentle bend in the side rails then lace the tramp nice and tight. After you pull off the strap the pull from the rails absorbs the slack as the ropes settle and stretch.

You want a slight bend when you are done, but don't over do it. If it's the first thing you notice when you see the boat, then someone probably went overboard.

I'll unlace the tramp and see if they return to being straight.
