The Hobie assembly manual has a good diagram of the recommended method for tying the main sail battens. But it doesn't say anything about the jib battens. Jib battens only have one hole and a slot for cleating off. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of their tying method that they can share? Also, unlike the main sail battens which stick out of the batten pockets my jib battens are almost even with the edge of the sail. This makes it very difficult to cleat them off. Is this normal? Thanks |

They tie in the same way - you just only get 1 less purchase power on it - the key is making sure that the line enters the cleat from the correct side - if you come into the cleat on the wrong side it will slip. |

Jbernier, It's time for an old dog to learn something new. I didn't realize there was a right or wrong side. I've been cleating them tight without regard for direction and haven't lost one yet. I guess I've just been lucky. I'd appreciate if you'd explain which is the right side. If you have an illustration, that would be awesome. Thanks, |

...and tie a knot in the end of the string so you don't lose your batten if the string pops out of the slot. |

The batten tie should be pulling from the flat cleat side to the rounded cleat side. |

Great, I'll inspect my battens and turn them over and/or re-tie as necessary. I'm good with the knot in the line past the cleat to keep the battens from falling in the drink. I love this forum! Thanks. |

You really don't need to tie knots in the end of your batten ties. (I hate when people do this, it makes changing battens a pain in tha a@#) Just take the tail of the tie and tuck it under itself and pull the slack out. It will stay in no matter how many times you flip. do that with your main too! |
