Carbon - A year ago, I got a deal on an FX-6, by the time I paid the dealer in the US, postage and customs etc, I was over $200....and I love it, especially when tacking and gybing, so light. Has a lot of 'feel' when out on the wings.

Steve, I agree with Matt, you'll notice it on the H18...

I have been using the Ronstan carbon battlestick for the last year. I have used it in all kinds of conditions and so far it's worked great. A number of the California H16 guys are using the Wildcat carbon tiller and report good results with that.

Carbon tillers are definitely more fragile though and I have seen several breakages.

Steve - It's noticeably lighter when tacking, you are welcome to give mine a test drive sometime.

i got it, someone sent be a email of that jib then you sent a pm. i thought the email might have been you. I just bought a matching main about a month ago for 100$ thanks for the link though

This seems like a good winter project. I had the old stock one (I think anyway, it did telescope, it came with the boat) and it was shattered, so I wrapped it in duck tape to protect myself from all the splinters and hope it worked for a while. That completely failed late last summer and I replaced it for the day with an old mop handle that works like crap. I am thankful that I saved the old one and can use the ends still on a homemade CF one.

Any special epoxy, or will the Home Depot 5 minute stuff work?

I wouldn't use 5 minute stuff. It doesn't cure hard - more rubbery. It's also too viscous.

Get one of the WEST System repair packs from West Marine.

Realize that this makes a non-telescoping tiller . . . which is what comes stock on the boats.

Optikid - I don't know what the diameter of the telescoping tiller is. I haven't used one in many years. Too many moving parts.
