Post subject:  Tips for lacing a tramp?

Just put a new tramp on and my arms and hands are sore! Seemed tight as I was lacing it but after the kids tested it out, my lacing seems loose! Any tips, please

Tighten it up, let your kids jump on it. Tighten it again. Get 2 vise grip pliers, adjust them so they pinch hard on lacing. Pull it tight,grommet by grommet. Or you can do like I do "sail sloppy". ;)

Also when I tightened mine I let the mesh tramp sit out in the sun on a hot summer day to get it nice and warm. Not sure how much this matters or even if its possible with it being December right now.

Buy a $5 hockey skate lace hook and use it along with a vicegrip. Makes it *much* easier to tighten the lacing and saves your hands.

I always tighten my tramp with 1/4" low stretch line, nearly too tight then lace 5/16" bungee through the grommets and pull it tight as I go.

This only works with a factory tramp as after market tramps use smaller grommets that are too small to lace both bungee and line through.

With this method you end up with a really tight tramp all season long. :D

And who doesn't like a tight tramp! :wink:

We use the mainsheet trick when doing Worlds boats... we do a LOT of boats in a short period. Typically 60 to 64!

Use the mainsheet system. Lay the blocks and line on the tramp "unsheeted" from side to side bar... in the center. Add a line to the base of the blocks that can reach around the sidebar, under the tramp and meet the top block. Tie off. Pad the side bars with some cardboard where the line goes around the sidebars. Sheet the system to bend the sidebars in by over 1". We sheet till the tramp gets a little pucker shape along the sidebar. Cleat the blocks and tighten the tramp using moderate tension. Using the vise grips, dowell or just holding the line at each grommet as you go. Tension the aft lace last and then release the block set.

We use this system and get over 1-2 inches of prebend in the bars for over 1 inch after releasing.

Worst loads on a grommet are during tensioning each one... this saves effort and grommets.
