I just looked at a 1988 Hobie 16 in New Jersey. Hulls are in good shape, new tramp, new rigging, composite rudders, sails in good shape. Galvanized trailer with new wheels, bearings, tires and lights. Is $2500.00 a fair price? Thank you |

I just paid $1000.00 for an 88 with trashed sails. Picked up some newer sails for $600.00. I will need a tramp in a year or two plus a few odds and ends. Figure I will be at the $2000 mark by then. So $2500 may not be bad if everything is in top notch. |

In San Diego there are a few hobie 16's in decent shape with trailers for under a thousand. They are mid 80's boats. I think 2500 is a little to high. Try to get him under 2000. I paid 800 for my 84 hobie 18 and it came with a almost new trailer and pretty good sails. Good luck. |

If it's REALLY in great shape and loaded with options that's a fair price. That said. it should have... Really nice sails - no holes, no stains, little wear, minimal repairs (i.e. probably not original) High quality cleats like Harken or Ronstan in good condition 6:1 Main sheet upgraded downhaul Two traps in good condition Aussie Jib Halyard Extendable Tiller EPO Rudders (make sure they are not just black plastic) Good Lines (no frayed sheets or halyards) No dents or bends in the mast & make sure the comptip is in good shape Solid/Clean hulls with only minimal repairs - NO PAINT Solid gudgeons that have not been ripped out clean tramp with little wear Clean trailer with no rust - Ideally with a Sail box If it has all that, then yes, it's probably worth it. |

I agree completely. But being an 88 it has a snowballs chance in hell of meeting that criteria. |
