Hello

I have taken my new Hobie out sailing a couple of times now and I am curious about the best way to trim the main. When sailing to windward should I be sheeting block to block and easing the traveller in the puffs or setting the traveller according to conditions and easing the main in the puffs?

What about reaching?

With the Jib should that only be eased when easing the main is no enough or should the crew be easing that along with the main?

Thanks!

I would say unless you have a very experienced crew, set the traveller (a little over powered) and sheet the main.Should only be very small increments of main sheeting.I usually just hang on to the sheet and extend my arm in a puff. That combined with crabbing to windward should control the heel.
If you find you are letting out too much sheet or the puffs are over powering then travell the jib and main out .

Thanks for the tip. We did this today and had a blast. Hit 16knots of boat speed and were flying along!
