Hi all, I'm going to look at a used H16 tonight. I'm going to be checking the hulls thoroughly for delamination. When I'm pushing on the hulls is there such a thing as pushing too hard. With my hand on the hull & pushing with my thumb it should be as hard as a rock, correct ? Can I push too hard & cause damage ? Is there a better way to check ? Should I be looking somewhere in particular ? Is there anything else I should look for in the hulls ? Thanks for answering this rookies questions. |

1. hulls should be able to hold the weight of a person, the can take a hard push once in a while(don't actually stand on them, it will make them delaminate in the future) 2. Correct, they should be rock hard. 3. I think you're safe as long as you aren't pushing with a hammer. 4. not really, pressing with your hands is as good as it gets, without slicing open the hulls. 5. you should look at/press down on the sides of the hulls as well as the top, along the entire length. 6. look for small cracks and also deformations along the hull. Any spot that doesn't look right or follow the lines of the boat could be bad, or it could just be a past repair) Good luck, let us know how it goes. |

I drove 6 hours back in November to pick up an 82 H16. Got there and within 10 seconds I knew I had been had. Hull was damaged and somewhat repaired. Went up to the front and just put my hands down and started pushing down, I did not expect the hulls to literally push in....... The entire front on both hulls was like that. Needless to say Myself, my Truck a Hobie trailer and a bucket of Beach Sand drove back 6 more hours!!!!!!!!! If it is bad, there will be no question in your mind. Walk away. |
