Post subject:  Installing older style comptip

I just received the comptip I ordered from someone on the hobie forums, and discovered that it was the older style. How is this installation different than with the current generation of comptips?
I have figured out it uses a single bolt to hold it in place and does not need the original tang to be removed. I figure it will still need a foam plug in the mast below the comptip. Is there anything else? Can I just line the comptip up with the mast to figure out where I need to cut?

Unfortunately I am stuck with this comptip before people suggest I use a new one...

thanks!

Silly question but if you have a perfectly good aluminum mast why are you cutting it?

I am cutting it in order to install a comptip so that I might race this summer

Wrap a sheet of paper around the mast where you need to cut it, so that the edge meets nicely, and mark it along that edge. That will give you a good line to cut by. A sharp pencil works fine, even on a black mast. Make sure any Bondo/Epoxy/whatever gets cleaned out of the sail track before it sets up. Bevel the aluminum part of the sail track, so it's nice and fair for lowering the sail.

The good thing about using these first, short ones, is you can still install the newer type later if needed.
