Have clear coat EPO 2 rudders that have been scratched and dinged on the bottom tip. What can I used to bring them to the original clear coat look. I've done the West Systems repair on old EPOs with great success. They were given as a lost cause but when I was done they coveted them. With the new rudder finish being clear... am I the only one that admits to damagaing the rudder?? |

I've used WEST System epoxy with the graphite additive (WEST 423) to rebuild the tips. It's not clear coat, but it matches, more or less. Unless you change your habits, it's just going to get damaged again. If you really want to bring it back to original, use the WEST 407 Special Clear Hardener. The problem with using epoxy is that it will amber when exposed to UV (sunlight). |

Hi! I just did some touch ups on my EPO2's. Scratches on the bottoms from beaching and scratches from the castings. I used West System. When I mixed it, it was clear but after it kicked off it was a little amber. I sanded it out and wet sanded through the grades to 1000 grit. I then polished it with 3M Finnesit 2 which brought it out to a nice shine and I can't tell where the repairs were. I'm not sure what will happen with some UV exposure though? Have a Hobie Day! Great info above. I used a combo of these forums (use the forum search feature for details) and these sources for help http://www.w1dm.com/projects/HOTLINE/11 ... OTLINE.pdf http://youtu.be/jNwMgX48uwQ http://www.thebeachcats.com/forums/view ... opic/13881 I used the spray paint option as a final coat but the opinions above come from a lot of experience. |
