Hi there everyone! Well, I finally did it, my friend and I have wanted to get a Hobie 16 for quite some time and 2 weeks ago I bought the H16
Very Excited!! So I thought I would share a funny story: Yesterday I installed new tramp lace, spit shined the boat and stepped the mast for the first time in my yard (That way I didn't look like a complete doofus on the beach... just in front of my neighbors.
) I then raised the main sail and got the main sheet working swell, everything was going smooth it was looking great!
Next comes the jib: After an hour and a half of referring H16 assembly guide, Hobie Cat H16 rigging video, and also countless pictures on the internet I noticed that my jib was rare, It was only Hobie cat 16 jib to have a boom attached to the bottom. In my head this must have been for racing, of course. (In my inexperienced sailor mind booms are like sail boat superchargers)
At this point my friend who also got the boat with me came home and stepped out of the car. He walked over to the now frustrated, slightly intoxicated me. (It took a 6 pack of Bells Oberon to get to the point where I was)
Dave: "Did you buy a Butterfly too?
Me: "What is a Butterfly?"
Dave: "The sail that you are trying to tie to the forestay is not for the Hobie, Its for a Butterfly, a small monohull."
Me: "S%@t"
The person who sold it to me is either missing a butterfly sail or has never set up this Hobie. Looks like I am going to have to get a new jib sail now! Anyone want to trade??
