I just got an older hobie 16, and the jib is missing the lower most batten. I am a beginner so, other than a loss in performance, will a missing lower batten cause any issues?

I lost the top one 2 weeks ago. I noticed the jib luff's alot unless pulled in really tight......... Got a new one on order, not expensive, be sure to order a cap also.

Hi ebs675,

I orded some 15mm wide generic batten from my local chandler and he threw in some end caps not the Hobie cleat type end caps but heyho.

I lost batten 2/4 and 3/4.

Cost for 3 meter of batten £2.50 (I'm in the UK) the Hobie battens though more desirable are around £20 each so around £40 plus delivery for the two. These are probably much cheaper in the US. I will probably end up buying a complete set but the above for now works perfectly fine.
I am a complete newbie and I had my maiden outing yesterday. An amazing experience.
I hope you enjoy your Hobie :-)
