So, I was just checking my hull numbers with the breakdown posted earlier. CCMS9283M84K is my hull number and I understand most of it, "M" stands for "manufacturer year", "84" is the year and "K" would be November of 1984? So, if the model year starts in September, then if my boat was made in November of 1984, then would it actually be a 1985 model?

On the older number system, M = Model Year
The model year starts in September of the prior year. September = A
So, K = 11th letter = July

You boat was built in July of 1984.

Oh okay I get it now.
Sept =A
Oct= B
Nov= C
Dec= D
Jan= E
Feb= F
Mar =G
Apr= H
May= I
Jun= J
Jul= K
Aug= L
Sept starts all over again with A.
My boat was built in the summer of 1984. Wow, I had just graduated high school a month earlier and was scooting around Niceville, Fl in my red 1976 Triumph TR-6!!! Awesome, thanks for the help in deciphering my HID!!!

Hi everybody!

I have finally posted a picture of the number on my pre-1973 Hobie 14! I was hoping Matt (or anyone else) would be able to tell me something about the numbers in this picture. In an earlier post on this thread I mentioned the four numbers had "strike" marks through them that looked like the number 1 and you can see those in the picture. Why is it like that?

There are the first four numbers which are 4271 and then a little bit over are three numbers which look like 112. All the numbers have the number 1 struck through them at various angles EXCEPT the last number which is 2. The numbers are on the outer side of the forward pylon coming out of the port hull. On the outer side of the starboard pylon it only has the set of three numbers 112 (second picture). They look the same pretty much. Each 1 is struck through with an angled 1.

Based on earlier replies, I know you can't tell exactly what year the pre-1973's were built, but any ideas on why there are more than four numbers and most are crossed through?

Thanks so much!
