We saw you from the Etchells course (I was PRO for them) yesterday - I was like, "I know that guy! - and was telling the story of the sails to the guy on the signal boat who's the Etchells NA class president.
He was completely blown away with the fact that HCE provided sails to the Euro events - and that Hobie Cat still provides boats for the worlds.
That's awesome, Matt! We had our share of troubles that day. It was a last minute decision, and I pulled the boat out of winter storage about 8pm the night before and got it home about 10:30pm. The race morning was spent trying to fit the new sail, and all my old batten ends crumbled as I took them off the old sail, so I raced with almost no tension. We were running late, so I forgot to tension the jib halyard until I was on the water. Then the jib tension sheeve crumbled when I did try it. My 35 year old boat was really showing its age! I need to get some parts from my local Hobie dealer this week, for sure. Instead of coming back, I spent Sunday cleaning all the waterline stains from the hulls with a scotchbright pad. I still have a lot of work to do in that area.
Despite all the issues, I had a great time on Saturday, and overall was pleased with my cold water gear and new sails. The folks at CRAM made a great effort to make us feel welcome and really helped us out, despite how out of place our boat was racing against all the shiny new F18's with spinnakers.
