At the age of 13 in the early 60's all I ever wanted was a Hobie surfboard but I knew my parents could never afford it. 100 bucks was all the money in the world back then. I found a job delivering newspapers. It took me months to save up for a used Hobie. I went on to cats and kayaks. Most of the outdoor fun I've had in life had something to do with a Hobie product. RIP Hobie Alter. :(

He is my hero. He found a way to make a comfortable living doing what he loved.

Thanks for the links... wouldn't it be great if his son could produce a decal we all could affix to our hulls in remembrance .....

RIP Hobie!
Living in the UK, I found myself in the fortunate and shall we say envied and thus popular position, due to receiving a Hobie skateboard for my birthday back in the 70's. Only kid in the street, oh wait town to have one, but not for long :-)
I am now the proud owner of a H16.

Thanks for all the fun times, Sir Hobart "Hobie" Alter.

I second this!

Maybe something that looks like salute to him for all he has done for us working stiffs that need a way to blow off steam and remember what FUN is.

Tribute decals would be a huge hit.

We would be looking to the Hobie Family to create a tribute sticker...

I would be more than happy to purchase a sticker for the boats. I'd say get them made up. Charge 20$ a pop and donate proceeds to a charity of the family's choice.

The paddle out sticker was done by Hobie Cat just for the Paddle Out.

Any additional memorial sticker has to be up to the Hobie family.

At the age of 12 in the late 60's I got my first surfboard...a 10'6" Hobie. I think it weighed more than I did and I had to borderline drag it across the sand to the water. That board started a string of lifetime memories. Thanks Hobie. Rest in peace.
