Post subject:  Old-style Masthead Sheave Dimensions

I am trying to machine a new masthead sheave out of delrin for my older H16 (non comp tip) but I am seeing varying reports as to the dimensions and mine is so disintegrated that it is not measurable.

shadme indicates here (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=28129) that they are 4 7/8" diameter, 4 3/8" diameter in the groove, with the groove being 3/8" round. The whole sheave is 13/32" thick and has a 3/8" hole.

PurdueZach measures one here (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46565) that has a 5" diameter, 4 1/2" diameter in the groove The whole sheave is 3/8" thick and has a 3/8" hole.

Which dimensions are most correct?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

I may still have one extra. I was keeping it in case I ever need to replace my own. Let me go out and see.

Do you just want this one? I can get you dimensions too if you want to still make one.

Thanks for the offer but I already have the delrin in the lathe so I would like have some solid numbers to finish it up. I am hoping the fresh delrin might last longer than the nylon or whatever the old one was made out of.

Matt!! Thank you thank you thank you! This is awesome and exactly what I needed. I see why there was some discrepancy in the measurement. I will share a picture once its been made.

After a few internet searches and lots of guessing, found this thread that helped me answer the questions on getting my masthead fixed. Thanks Matt for the drawing. It was very helpful in finding someone to make one for me. Ended up sending the masthead to ZEPHYRWERKS (http://www.zephyrwerks.com/) Ed Louchard

Ed did a beautiful restore on the masthead sheave with a brass cam and new pin. Works better than ever!

mmiller or anyone: can I buy a new sheave from Hobie or anyone else out there,Would also like the alum mast tip, but most info says not available anymore? Lots of old H16's probably need this/these parts....(rather than new com tip +halyard, etc,$$$.Help!?! Maybe attach a regular block, and line halyard like most masts have, not going to race anyway? comments? what was/is the reason(s) for the wire/line halyard set-up anyway?
