So, original 1986 era H16 jib cleats are the metal cleats attached to metal swivel plates with bolts. Thought I could buy Harken/Ronstan/Nautos aftermarket cleat sets to replace the metal ones. Upon removing the screws from the plate & cleat, I pulled off each cleat individually, only to find there is a ferrule press fit/mounted to the plate. ie. you can't mount a new cleat set straight on to the plate.
This then explained to me why you can buy a new swivel plate with cleat pre-mounted to it. it is a different plate that is used to mount a cleat on.
Now that I own 2 jib cleats I'm trying to figure out how to make this work without buying the $~60 each swivel plates. Any thoughts/experience/insight on taking a hack saw and cutting off the ferrule flush to the top of the plate? If I cut off the ferrule, the diameter of the hole is perfect and ready for my new cleats.
Didn't know if others have successfully or unsuccessfully done this or something different.
Thx.
The screw I need to put through my new cleat is the diameter of the inside of the ferrule and with the ferrules in place
