Howdy hey, I am a staff member at a boating camp in our area and we have 2 16ft cats that are in decent condition. We take kids out on the boats during the day but in the afternoon the staff and I love to go sailing and chill on the lake. I had an idea to rig a hammock chair on to the mast to use during really light sailing or just floating about. I have seen some larger boats use the spinnaker poles to hold the chairs and some people use their boom hiked out. Obviously the boom is out for the hobie but what if I some how attached the chair to the trapeze wires and used some knot magic to pull the chair off from the mast. I weight 175lbs and the chair maybe 5lbs. Do you think I would be risking destroying anything or could it work? Thanks, K |

Since the mast is capable of supporting two crew on trapeze wires (200+ lbs on each wire... no problem) ... hanging it from those wires should be no problem at all. Worst case, you tip the boat over. make sure you can easily get out of the chair though. |

Interesting idea. I would use the boom. Disconnect the boom from the foot of the sail but keep the gooseneck fitting attached to the boom. Slide the gooseneck into the mast track above the opening on the track and hoist the boom up (maybe 4 feet or so). I would connect the main halyard to the back of the boom and the jib halyard to the front of the boom so the boom is supported at both ends. Then connect your hammock to the boom. sm |

If you end up figuring this out, post some pictures of the setup here, sounds like something worth trying. |
