Hi all,

My cams definitely need to be replaced, but I have questions about the rudder casting that holds the cams.

What should the clearance be between the cams and the casting (both to the side and above). From these pictures you can see that there is probably 5mm (3/16") gap between casting and the cam when pushed to one side. Additionally, it looks like there is not enough clearance between the top of the cam and the casting - note how chewed up the cam is.

Solutions - is one needed for the horizontal play? Washers? For the top of the casting, would a file work to smooth it down and hopefully stop the gouging of the cam?

Sorry, not sure how to insert pictures into the body of the post.

Thanks,

James

The side-to-side clearance is fine. That's not a critical aspect.

The wear on the top is not critical either. You might want to take a small file and smooth out the "teeth" on the casting that are doing the damage.

As long as the cams rotate and lock the rudders down with an authoritative *snap*, then you should be good to go. A bit of white lithium grease on the plunger and the underside of the cam (not the top) helps a lot.
