I recently aquired a roller furling jib for my 16 and do a lot of solo sailing. I have no problems solo stepping using the jib halyard to hold up the mast (connected to the trailer with a rope) so I can pin the forstay. Does anybody have any other techniques to solo step the mast without having the jib halyard? My furling jib has the forstay built into the sail.

Tamarak,

Don't know if this will help but I now sail with an aussie halyard. I still have the old halyard connected just for solo mast stepping purpose. My only concern was preventing the old halyard from getting in the way after the boat was rigged. Once I worked that out, it was a dream.

Happy Sailing,

David
