Hello all, it has been quite a while since I have been on the forum, but I have a quick question about sailing in Oceanside.

My Fiance and I are driving to Oceanside from AZ and would like to sail a Hobie 16 in their natural habitat. I would be able to trailer my boat with me, but know nothing about where to launch, how to store it, and if it needs any registrations or anything. Can anyone help with these things?

I was also wondering if there is anywhere on the water that rents cats for the day or anything like that? I appreciate the help!

I'd avise driving down to Mission Bay to sail. Oceanside only has a ramp and dock for launching and no beach to stop at. Mission bay is surrounded by beaches. You can launch at several different places with sand next to the ramp to rig and set up a picnic. Santa Clara Point is the favorite cat sailing spot.

You can rent cats for several spots as well. North end of Santa Clara Point has the Mission Bay Sports Center. Campland also (used too, not sure). Camp land has easy launching and also offers mast up storage. You can also rent from Seaforth.

Places to sail Google map has lots of information. Zoom out then over to San diego.

Thanks for this info! I did some research on Santa Clara point and it looks like exactly what we want. I was just wondering if there are spots to park a vehicle with a trailer? How busy do these spots look on a week day? Lastly, is any kind of registration required for my boat? I apreciate the help!

Generally registration is required. You don;t have your local registration?

There are trailer parking spots. Weekdays should be easy!

Arizona game and fish covers all watercraft here, and they require no registration for non motorized watercraft.

Should be OK if you are traveling into California then. Keep some documentation with you to prove the out-of-state, but they rarely have looked at me and I often sail without registration as factor demo boats have none. We use dealer plates.

Excellent. I think my last issue is that we are staying at a hotel, and I am not sure where I will be able to store the boat and trailer at night when we are not using it. Any ideas on that?

Did you ask the hotel?

mattsails247 - We always detach the boat trailer from our truck whenever we travel with our H-16 & spend the night at a hotel. You'll be taking up 2 spots, but that hasn't been a problem for us so far. You can call your hotel to be sure.
