From what I understand from using forums, pictures have to be “hosted” by an online source, then you copy and paste the url of a picture into the body of text within the forum, that’s how it usually goes.
Tapatalk makes it very easy to post pics in a forum, it’s so simple to use and you post directly from your phone, no 3rd party hosting required. Simple.

Not sure that's true. Most forums I've used you can simply attach a photo. No URL's required.

I use Dropbox to host and share my photos.

Copy the photo you want to share into your local dropbox folder which is then automatically synchronized to the online service. On the dropbox website share the photo as public so anyone with link can view it and copy the shared link.

Tricky bit is link needs to be modified for direct online viewing by change the last portion of "dl=0" to "raw=1"

Copied link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qu5dawz92vc2m ... 0.jpg?dl=0

Modified link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qu5dawz92vc2m ... .jpg?raw=1

Use the modified link in the IMG tag
Code:
[img]https://www.dropbox.com/s/qu5dawz92vc2mv3/IMG_0120.jpg?raw=1[/img]

and the results

Hmmm, well, that’s been my experience anyway.

Marty I hear what you're saying sir. One fishing forum site I'm on that I rarely post on does require a URL to post pics. It's not hard to do you just have to have pics stored on a hosting site. Picture hosting sites are possibly the easiest way to have your computer hacked. They are far from secure and not an option for me to use. Again this is a great site but would be so much better with the ability to upload pictures stored on a computer or phone. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Tim for digging up that link!

Unfortunately today we are in a time where using remote or 3rd party sites isn't safe. Too easy to get your information stolen or get hacked. Many companies have these hosting sites blocked due to the security threat. It's real folks.

I know Hobie has had a full plate lately with rolling out the new Outback last fall now rolling out an awesome new 360 drive and making changes to a forum is probably way down the list lol. Maybe changing the forum format to allow photo uploads from a hard drive or as an attachment is in the works.

No worries. That’s why I use the Tapatalk app, eliminates that 3rd party stuff.
