This works with both older style and new GoPro cameras. I have been using this mount four years now with no issues.

I just put a quarter inch bolt at the bottom of my forestay adjuster. I tie a safety lanyard to the wind indicator, but I have never had the camera come off.

I spray the bolt with dry lube and spin the camera mount onto the bolt three times, leaving it to swing back and forth on its' own. You can see in the last photo below the boat is tilted, but the horizon is horizontal. I can also use a wrench to spin the outer nut (with a wrench) to act as a jam nut to hold the camera in one position if I do not want auto-rotation.

Next one I build will be triple the cost!

I am going with stainless steel. (Notice the rusty washers in picture)

Great idea, I also have a Telo-cat wind vane, I'm confused as to what the extra 10 hole adjuster is for though?

The second adjuster has nothing to do with the GoPro.
It is used for holding the forestay forward off the jib using a small bungee.

I have been overthinking how to do this for weeks. Thanks jsloan999. I see from your picture that the go pro is mounted sideways (red shutter button the right edge of the camera "cube"). I assume it is easy to rotate the picture so it is properly oriented in computer software? Even if it is a video and not a still jpg or png?

Thanks again for sharing.

Good Catch!

Yes - I see that the camera was not in the GoPro frame correctly in my pic (Oops!). With this bridle mount setup, the GoPro will be up-side-down.

Easy fix - Remove the camera from its frame and rotate 90 degrees. The red button should be facing downward which makes the camera up-side-down. This is a non-issue as this model GoPro automatically rotates the image when filming.

This brings up a good point. When I was using the older style of GoPro, I had to manually set it to film up-side-down. No big deal.

Try it and post some pics!

Thank you jsloan999 for the inspiration, I took it a step further, now having a furling jib I made a simple bracket with some aluminum stock.
A couple cuts, some rounding of the corners, 3 holes and a slight bend in a vise and with a c-wrench to have the bolt level. Zip-ties secure it.
Seems to have worked out great today!

Very tidy setup... did you cut down your jib for the furler??

I have had a furler on my 16 for about 4 years now and really like it.

No real way to check the condition of the wire inside the jib though...

Thanks!

The furler jib came with the boat I bought so I don't know the specifics of it's construction beyond it's a SLO sail with the UV outer fabric. It certainly looks cut down compared to a Hobie sail.
