I'm replacing the old roller jib sail with an Aussie style jib setup on my '86 all aluminum mast. There are thee cleats, one on each side, then one aft for the down haul. The original cheek block was located on the port side below the cleat. It has been removed and the holes taped over. I need to replace the cheek block and possibly add one more higher up the mast for the Aussie system, but I'm not too sure where to attach these new cheek blocks. should the blocks be located on the front of the mast or is it ok if they are on the side. I don't want to hinder the mast rotation. Thanks!

Place the blocks on the side of the mast. To keep the halyard clear of the battens, add a small cheek block on the side of the mast just above where the top batten hits the mast. That'll help keep the battens from hanging up during a tack in light wind.
