You can find the class rules at www.hobieclass.com

http://www.hobieclass.com/site/hobie/ih ... 060901.pdf

An 81 model would have to have a CompTip (Mast upper made of fiberglass) conversion. It may have been done already. Factory trampoline, sails and a fiberglass hiking stick. Those are the major issues.

You will also find links to the World wide regional associations there.

North America has a site here: www.hca-na.org

What year do you have to have a comp tip? In the rules it looked like you could only race with a 16 with a comp tip. I have a 1977 and would like to try and race but i dont want to spend $500 for a tip on a boat i paid a dollar for. Any suggestions?

All Hobie Cats are required to have CompTips to compete in Hobie class races. You can purchase a CompTip when used for a first time conversion for about 40% off the retail price. This can be done factory direct or through a dealer taht is willing to partisipate in the program.
