Theoretically speaking....Can I rig a Hobie 18 sail on a Hobie 16 if I use a Hobie 18 boom instead of the Hobie 16 boom? What would happen? On that note...what are some fun projects to do with old colorful Hobie 18 sails?

You won't need a boom, because the foot of the sail will be dragging along the trampoline... The H18 mast is two feet longer than the H16 mast. Not going to work.

I saw a cut-down Tornado sail on a Hobie 16 the other day. Maybe you could do the same with a hobie 18's sail?

Just go all the way!

Custom fit an H18 mast on to an H16. just need new shrouds an H18 mast step

Years ago I saw a 16 with a 17 mast. Biggest challenge was swapping out the 16 mast base for a 17 ball.

A long, long time ago on a light air day, we decided to put a 16 main up as a jib. As I remember,it seemed to add a little reaching speed in light air. The few (1 or 2) tacks or gybes we did were a pain. We had to crawl up to the bow and pull the sail around.

Almost as much fun as flipping one over, tying a life jacket to the masthead and using the hull in the air as a diving board.
