Hello and thanks for the add . recently got my hands on an 80's hobie 16. want to mount an outboard to be able to clear shipping channel if wind dies out . the cheetah mount is an option I'm looking into but my 2hp weighs 42 pounds anyone know how this will play out ? trim? ect? thanks for any input

This thread is from the Getaway forum. Lots of ideas for motor mounts. I had a Cheeta on my Getaway, but switched to Keith's design with the additional crossbar; it's plenty strong enough to hold a 42# motor. You will probably have to modify Keith's design for the 16, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a Cheeta - $100 vs $500!

I have been thinking about a motor and one of my concerns is what happens when you pitch-pole and have a motor on the end of a 2' lever arm flying through the air? Even a flip could put unexpected stresses on the mount and I'd imagine the extra weight might turtle the boat, submerging the motor, and make it more challenging to right.

I know I'm a bit paranoid. Does anyone have experience with these situations?

I have the (original Cheetah) piece that rivets to the rear cross bar of a Hobie 16
Unfortunately the motor mount "half" is missing

accepting reasonable offers
