Man she's looking good! I really like Meguiar's products. I use Starbright Marine Polish on my boat to keep the hulls shiny and slick but I didn't have oxidation issues when I got it.

Finding the rudder parts shouldn't be very difficult. Someone here may be able to help you out, and search Ebay also.

Thank you. I know I can buy new parts....but this being a 73 HC16, I promised myself I wouldn’t invest too much money until I know its a sailer. In fact, I’m not compounding or waxing hulls until after my maiden voyage. You should see my actual rudder blade fix. I’ll post pictures soon. If I’m understanding the parts guide correctly, I need the following to have complete CAT minus some ropes and cables and maybe a miscellaneous pulley or two.

(1) 10412011 Lower Casting
(1) 10352011 Upper Casting port
(1) 20382011 Tiller Tube and Cap
Tiller crossbar 20520011

I have all the parts you'll need. located in N Kansas City

1st trampoline install. Not sure I could get a factory job at Hobie yet....but I feel pretty good about it. It’s upside down. Hiking straps were broken and the underside had better color.

She’s up and ready to roll. You’ll notice that I’m working on 2 minor spots on starport hull outside.

I believe that you can have new hiking straps sewn onto your existing tramp.

Water rigging done. Sails are next. I had a forum member reach out that lives close to me and he is going to help me raise sails and look over verything as a whole. He also has a mast extension for my trailer tongue that is bolt on.

It may be my imagination but the end of the mast over the tow car seems very high. Some one here should be able to tell us what that should be. It can be adjusted by moving the support forward. When I kept my boat in the back yard, the mast would catch on tree limbs or bushes when I pulled it up to the front of the house.

I totally agree. I looked at cutting it down....it’s a one time trip so I’m going for it. I’ve got the mast so it won’t slide back. I know....famous last words.

If you decide that you do want hiking straps, go to your nearest junkyard and ask them if you can cut the seatbelts out of an old car. Then, drop the tramp off at an auto upholstery shop and I bet they'll sew them on for next to nothing.

Truth be told, I'm too tall at 6'4" to really make comfortable use of them. When I did have them I just used them for stowing halyards and possibly a spray jacket.

That is a really nice trailer setup for 80 miles!

FYI, the mast support on the trailer is going to hang up on your bridals if you try to launch the boat from the trailer.

You want the mast high enough on the front of the trailer so that you can open your tailgate fully without it hitting the mast. Any amount over that is over kill.

Suggestion for tramp hiking straps. Buy grommet kit, install grommets through the existing stitched on pieces. Then string 3'8 to 1'2" line through them and thread line through foam hvac insulation tubing for feet to slide under and be comfy. Have used this system for years. Works well, every few years replace the foam tubing over line. Tape the ends of tubing to prevent tearing. Looks nice too when done properly.

By the way...beautiful end result on your $50 buck Hobie!
