I would love to see a picture. Help me understand the 3’8 to 1’2”.

I think it was meant to refer to the line diameter: 3/8” to 1/2”.

It’s pretty windy. I’m nervous even raising the sails.

I got over it. Nothing left to do but go sailing. I’m not a pro a trimming sails. I have wrinkles.

Looks good. Adjust the downhaul to get the wrinkles out. With the mainsheet blocks attached to the traveler car, bring the mainsheet up to the mast. Pull down on the downhaul sheet and then pull on the main sheet the boom should inch down a little at a time and then cleat the down haul and you're done.

Great job by the way, it's awesome to see the progress you have made in restoring your Hobie Cat, cant believe it was in a field when you found it and look at her now!

Well I guess I’m an official HC16 captain. Snapped the rudder fix after about 40 minuets. I’m guessing 8 to 10 knot wind. Water was on verge of producing white caps. Did a few closed hauls and a few beam reaches then snap. Went mostly running back to dock with one rudder and upper casting port dragging in the water. 50 Cent will now rest on lift so I can build the shore station. I will get a new/old rudder and get back to it. I’ll need a new trampoline too.

#hobielife

Side note: ever since you started this thread I have been offering everyone on c-list 50 bucks for their hobies and sunfishes and I have had no takers...

HaHa. That’s a 96 MasterCraft. It’s the kind nobody wants anymore. Closed bow and center engine. 10K at best...maybe 12. Everyone wants surf boats these days. I guess I buy the things that most don’t want.

I just got lucky on this HC. I’m sure some, maybe a lot would not agree. She is a project....and my “getting it sail ready” cost is creeping up. And now I need a rudder, tramp, main Halyard line and jib sheet line. After that, I’ll be content and have super fun on this thing.

Yes line size may vary for what you may have on hand.

Cool. Thanks. I’m pretty sure I’ll need to invest in a new trampoline. This one is thin.

Thanks for everyone’s responses and listening to my story. I really appreciate the help along the way. I probably should have done this a long time ago. I’ll slow down on my posts but will update as things progress or come up.

Gone sailing.
