Post subject:  Question about sail clue

My sail’s clue has rivets that are old and fading. I bought a new clue with new rivets, but those rivets are different than the pop rivets that I’m used to. Could anyone offer me any suggestion on how to remove the old rivets and set the new ones, as they seem to need a tool that I don’t have. Any advice is helpful.
Thank you,
Have a Hobie day!

Do a search....there are many threads here on jib CLEW replacement and rivet removal. The rivets you have require a special tool to set them. I've used short 1/8" dia. aluminum pop rivets....not as pretty but will work.

Machine scews and nuts would also work. Again, not as pretty as the solid rivets, but fully functional. Install the screws (either #6 or #8) and nuts and then use a dremel to cut off and smooth out any excess screw sticking out beyond the nut.

Michaels Arts and Craft store sells a rivet set tool that will work. I’m pretty sure I got mine in the leather craft dept. They call it an eyelet setter kit.

Used it to set a new Hobie clew plate on my jib.

Good Luck!

Go to your locally owned hardware store and ask for screw posts, or as Hobie sailors call them sex screws.

Is that like "sister screws"?

You can use semi tubular rivets and set them with a hammer and a grommet setting post.
