Post subject:  Looks like I will be getting a 16 tomorrow.

Just found a free 16 that I am going to pick up tomorrow night. The owner told me the last 3 digits on the hin are 771. Does that make it a 71?

The stripes on the hull from the picture are black, a narrow, a wider then another narrow. Does that mean anything as far as being able to date the boat?

It is supposed to be all there except for a mainsail. He sent a picture of it with the mainsail he had and it was all white with 76562 for the #.

It looks like the tramp corners are/were anodized.

Can someone tell me if the 16 will fit on my trailer that a 14 fits on if the 14 only has a couple inches between the hull and the upright rollers or will I need to openup my trailer?

Sorry for the long post I am a tiny bit excited! lol

The stripes on the side of this poor hobie look like the one I am getting

Anyone know if the 14 and 16 are different widths?

I need to know before I go to pick a 16 up if my trailer is going to fit it or not.

TIA
Eric

The beam of a 16 is three inches wider than the 14
If your roller uprights are on the inside, and you decide not to spread them out
Be very careful to have the boat tied down tightly!
If the boat shifts off the end of the roller (on either side) you'll end up with a puncture wound in the side of the hull from the roller axle
(don't ask me how I know)

My guess is the sail was not original to this boat (76562 = ~'83)

Probably a '77 based on hull stripes
check the numbers on each transom
Last character "should" be a letter, i.e. XXX77F
77 = year, F = month of manufacture

Let us know and post photos

Thank you very much. Hopefully I will get it tomorrow. It's a 2 hour ride each way.

Gah! Someone else got there before I could drive the 2 hours each way.

Thankfully the owner let me know before I was able to leave.

Looks like I am still sailing my 14turbo. I am not complaining it is a fun little boat!

Well dang, never fear, another one will come along soon enough, and at least you have the H14T!!!

I am sure another will come along if it is meant to be!

I took out the 14 tonight. Got ripped off! Left the house with decent wind, at least 5-8 knots. Get to the lake and barely enough to fly a piece of surveyors tape. But I was there so what the heck. A 14 turbo will sail if the breeze will move surveyors tape even with 230# aboard!

A bad night sailing is better than work anytime!

I purchased a 16 a couple days ago but i will be keeping the 14t. It is easy and quick to set-up and sail solo. Until i get used to the 16 I will probably not even imagine gettting rid of the 14, even then I will probably keep it.
