Your 1984 could be a "redline" boat. Look it up to see what I mean. If it is you have a lighter boat than some. That would be desirable for racing.

Just check the hulls over real well for soft spots.

Welcome back to the Hobie family.

Beautiful Cat!

There is a 16' listed as an '85 for sale near me for ~$1k that hasn't sold in a few weeks. That fits in the redline years what is the likely hood it would be a redline? It has #53 boomer '81 national colored sails #79688.

Not sure, maybe Mr Miller may know how the production process was then and why some boats were Redlines and others not.
Getting back to the OPs question about 80's boats, maybe someone with more knowledge of the newer boats can provide a list of differences from the 80's up to the current model.

The hulls starting in 84 are about 20 lbs lighter than previous years, some may still have the black epoxy on the seams. The 85 would be the first year for the comptip mast. In 82 they went with the jib traveler and cam lock as 2 seperate pieces, with the cam lock mounted on the frame. I'm not sure how long they used this set up. So on an 82 you lift up to uncleat, whereas the older boats you had to snap the sheets down to uncleat.
