How long do you run your Main Sheet? I think the catalog/user manual says 44', but i saw on here once that 40' was good (maybe i have that backwards). It seems to me that i have way too much main sheet and it is always difficult to manage it while on the wire. Any advice on how to manage it while on the wire would be great too. Do you have your crew hold it? I usually sail solo. |

40' is plenty long,even at that you will probably cut a few feet off it. |

Yeah, I'd guess 40' would be fine. I bought a remnant length of mainsheet that was too long and didn't cut it out of laziness. I had a real problem when on the wire with discovering the main trailing behind the boat after falling through the laces. Made it hard to work (I usually solo). I saw a technique on Youtube somewhere that showed the skipper dropping the mainsheet in the water under him while on the wire and letting that drag the errant length up from between the laces when that happened. I got it to work for me once. But my usual technique is to amateurishly hold part of the main in my teeth while I fight with the rest of it, slinging it back on the tramp and trying to steer kind of straight. Can't do that on a gusty day - needs to be cleated, but I don't go on the wire in big waves or gusts any more. |
