The youtube videos I have watched as well as Murray's said the end of the jib sheet which is returning from the pulley attached to the clew of the jib should come back through the same block that has the "outgoing" jib sheet (going to the same pulley). The lines are chaffing each other and even with the standard jib sheet thickness, the line does not run freely though the block system so the jib doesn't release properly. I find it hard to believe the jib sheet rigging was designed this poorly.

Where does the bitter end tie off?

I currently have a loop around the line which pulls the blocks/cars outward but this results in the bitter end of the jib sheet pulling on that line when under sail power. The small metal hole that line runs through will eventually cut through.

Cut and paste the below link into your browser. It is a short vimeo video I made which more clearly illustrates my problem. (pasting pictures into this message is a pain in the neck.)

Any help is appreciated.

Not the design...

The bitter end would tie to the car or the block depending on the type. Many different styles over the years.

The video link says "not authorized" so I can't see what you have.

The OP's sail number is pretty close to mine so he might have the same jib cars. Here's how mine are:

Maybe try adding a shackle through the hole you have the bitter end tied to and then tie to the shackle. That would eliminate chafing.

I had to go to 1/4" line on mine to get the jib sheet to run free

LaFlamaBlanca,
If the vimeo link is how yours is set up I think I see the problem.

The bitter end of the Jib sheet should be tied where you have the blue line tied to the front side of the traveler car.

The blue line should be tied through the hole on the side of the traveler car.

Make yours like the picture AntonLargiader Posted and it should work better.
