Could I put a used set of EPO's from an 18 on a 16? (holes line up, same dimensions etc).
Why did they stop making EPO's seems like everyone wants them?
Thanks,
John

The holes are actually drilled differently. You can use the same rudders you will just need to fill the current holes and then re drill them for the H16. I do not know why the epo's were stooped being made. I have been very pleased with the quality of the Hobie race rudder for the H16's

Thanks,

EPO's were made during the time that Coleman Co. owned Hobie Cat. Coleman also owned O'Brien Skis, among several other recreational product companies.

It's my understanding that the process used to make EPO Rudders came from O'Brien. It might have been a proprietary process, so when Coleman sold Hobie Cat in 1988, Hobie no longer had permission to use the process to make rudders. Sounds like a good reason, anyway.

The EPO's are unmatched in their light weight, stiffness and the hardness of their finish. The class rules were changed to allow the lighter weight EPO rudders when they were introduced in the early 1980's.

Only carbon rudders come close, and even those can't match the hard finish that the EPO's had. The only carbon rudders I've seen were hand made and very expensive.
