Hi all,

I just replaced all of the wires on my Hobie and Woah, I can't believe the amount of rake my mast has now compared to the old wires. Is it possible to have too much rake? What are the benefits/downfalls of too much rake?

thanks,

Cory

I don't know the specific settings for the 16, but if you can't sheet your sails in tight enough, then you have too much mast rake. You need low profile blocks to carry a lot of rake.

Also, rudder helm may become excessive requiring rudder rake adjustment.

Rake? More the better!

Rig the boat and sheet the main tight. The blocks on the boom should nearly touch the blocks on the traveler when sheeted as tightly as you would for sailing in the conditions of the day. Adjust the shrouds and jib halyard tension accordingly.
