Post subject:  Hobie 16 hull weight
What is the weight range for hobie 16 hulls? I know in '84 they were quite light and therefore highly sought after.

1994 to current: ~320 lbs.
1993 and earlier: ~340 lbs.

The individual hulls can weigh anywhere from 83 - 90 lbs (completely stripped of all hardware).

The 1984 (and some 1985) boats were light - look for a red hull/deck glue seam. They're also fragile.

I had a 1984 boat that actually had lead in the rear pylon to help it make the new minimum weight of 320#. Without the lead, the boat weighed only 315# :D

Newer boats are light and much more durable.

Actually, there should be a couple of good used boats right there on the lake with you.

I know Dave Steimsma has a couple - I think he even has a light '84 that he's restored (he may not be willing to part with it, though)

Take a drive around the lake and see if people have boats for sail. The Austin Lake fleet used to be one of the most active in Division 10.

There are some boats out this way, but usually they're "backyard queens" - they've been sitting a long time and are in tough shape. You would be looking at a new tramp, all new lines and maybe new rudders (because the plastic gets brittle in the sun) at minimum. Used sails are fairly common on e-Bay.
