Anyone know how this old style jib traveler works? It's on my '85 H16. Looks like a manual version of the main traveler. If so, that doesn't make it an easy move to let the jib out or in while sailing. Am I right with this?
Also, looks like the wheel is a little worn out here too.

Yeah, older setup. You have a cleat for the sheets as well right?

I successfully run with this older style set up. You can drill out the sheave rivets and replace the sheaves with clevis pins. Sheaves and clevis pins available from West Marine. The line will move through there WAY better.

Thanks for the comments.
Is the rope hanging block in the corner of the photo my corner block? Still trying to figure it all out on what I have, and what if anything needs replacement or upgrade.
These are photos of my system.

It is the old style jib car setup. You pull up on the spring pin in the traveler car and manually slide the traveler where you want to set it. The downside is that if it’s windy, you really don’t want the crew to have to go down to the leeward hull to make adjustments due to risk of capsize. That’s why all of the new boats have remote adjustment for the jib traveler.

You can retrofit an adjustable system a few different ways, but you will need to add a set of cleats and bullet blocks.

Thanks for the reply.
I think I've got it figured out on how the jib is attached at all three points. And the main gypsy controls the shape through swivel cam cleats. The track is manually adjusted in and out. Okay, what exactly do those blocks hanging off the front pylons do? Something to do with the jib
?

Not part of the jib system. Maybe something related to the righting line?

Thanks for the thoughts srm. Too small for a righting line.
I'm still not sure, but maybe it had something to do with how someone had the trap bungee configured. There's one at each front pylon and one at the port side rear. All the lines and rigging were a jumble when I purchased it. Couldn't tell what went where...

Yes Matt, the photo shows the aluminum sheet swivel cam. There's one on each side to control jib sheet after going through the traveler.

I'm looking at the Kissme jib traveler upgrade dlx kit, but think (no experience) it would be better with a low profile like the 'knuckle duster' style. Less to get lines hung up on? Anyone use these as compared to the car and pulley in the kit?

Also, are there preferences on where to mount the cleat? Close to the corner or inboard? Swivel cleat vs. static mount?
Again for reference, I will be a solo crew.

Thanks for all the help with my questions! Hoping this week to step the mast for the first time now that the mast base has been replaced. Some questions may resolve themselves once I see it up. Still got to clean the sails, old and stained.

How's this system going to work? (Am I forgetting something?)

A Ronstan cam cleat c-cleat with fairlead and rope wire guide, (do I need a base for this as it will mount on curved front crossbar?) Tren-tec 'knuckle duster' style traveler car, and Harken block micro cheek for mounting on the corner brace?

Not sure exactly how much traveler car line (3/16") to purchase, maybe 12 ft. per side?
I don't think I'll have any interference issues between sheet line and traveler car.

Always going to be solo sailing for reference. Just have to figure out what size rivets or screws ( #10 32-1 1/2) to mount the cleat and corner block...

As always, thank you all for your thoughts on my questions on this '85 H16 re-fit.
