Anyone ever buy used Worlds sails? Even old Nationals? What might they cost and where might I look?
Just looking at options for next years upgrade to newer sails for '85 H16. I don't race, just solo sailing

I assume you’re talking about the 2019 worlds that was held in Florida. Those sails most likely would have just been sold as part of the entire package when the boats were sold. But you could certainly check with a dealer to see, maybe there were some spare sets made.

Hobie hasn’t made boats or sails specifically for Nationals in a very long time - late ‘80s or maybe 1990’s. They would be very old sails by now.

Your best bet would probably be to find a racer that’s looking to turn over a set of sails that are only a couple seasons old.

I bought a set and am very happy with them. Forget what the actual price ended up, but very cheap as the dealer threw on a discount after Hobie did.

Check with a dealer or Matt Miller to see if anything is available, but I doubt any are.

Thanks! I loved 2008, 2010 sails!! I would have purchased them in a minute.

That was a great link to older posting.

Matt, does Hobie still do this occasionally? Would I contact my local Hobie dealer or someone local to where Worlds have been held to even find out.

A fire has been lit here...

Yes you would simply contact your Hobie dealer. I can confirm that all the sails from the 2019 world championships were sold. Most of the 2019 worlds boats have been sold but I hear the dealer in Tampa, FL has a couple left. Understand, these are are limited production runs and they sell quickly once the event is concluded. Your dealer would have all the details.

The other sails mentioned in the previous past are from past European championships events where they produce limited runs of sails with special colors. These are typically sold in Europe but occasionally some turn up in the North American market.

Keep in mind you can always order a custom sail color patten from Hobie Cat. Again you would contact you dealer for details.

Thanks for your thoughts on all of this.
I realize all of these specialty salis are just that, limited run and availability no matter the domestic market or international.

Looking at the limited patterns and colors available leaves a lot to be desired these days from sale makers..
I'm going to start looking and see what I can find. The search has to begin somewhere.

If you don’t race and just sail for fun. Contact Whirlwind sails. Chip at Whirlwind makes some great aftermarket sails. He is VERY familiar with Hobie sails. But they aren’t class legal so if you start winning races, people will protest.

Thank you. Yes, I am familiar with Whirlwinds Hobie connection with sails. They make a very good product.

The nearest Hobie sailing club is almost 5 hours away from me, and I work 6 days a week. Would love to sail with others to share experiences. Who knows, with the 23rd Worlds in Spain this week, maybe I get lucky?
