I guess my mainsheet is set up as all others 6:1 with the cam cleat facing down toward the traveler/tramp/water etc on the lower block assembly.
I noticed that the line kept un-locking itself from the cam jaws with the weight of the mainsheet line.

The cam cleat is new and I even adjusted the cam base bracket by slidding/tilting it as far inward to have more angle on the line with the adjustment screws on the side of the block.

Can the cam cleat be mounted on top of the bracket facing up instead of under the bracket facing down like it is now???

thanks!

Under pressure the line should not fall out of the cleat. Maybe when it is not sheeted in it would but that should not matter.

You want to be able to uncleat it in a hurry and the down in the best way to have it is facing down.

I think the 6:1 ratio is too much and reduces the preasure on the cleated line so much that it uncleats itself...

Anyways would it be race legal having the cleat on top of the bracket?
Can I play around with the mainsheet set up to what works best for me and still be legal?

Something else is wrong if it is falling out. Pressure from the sail or not it shouldn't fall out of the cleat. 6:1 is about perfect for the 16, and I wouldn't flip it whether it would be considered race legal or not. It will be really hard to cleat again.

What do you have for a setup. Sheets/Blocks?

I have the Harken 6:1 low profile system with the 2.25" blocks and a 150 cam cleat.

What mainsheet line do you have? Does it happen more when the line gets saturated?

I figured it was the line....I have no idea what brand/model is it. I know its new (had it in my rope bin for a couple of years never used), red braided with a white core, 3/8".... and it gets heavier when wet...

What line do you recommend that remains light, perhaps of less diameter and isnt too expensive?

thanks!!!

It still probably shouldn't uncleat that easily--who knows? To answer your question about line. That might be a good topic to start, as I'm sure there are some opinions on this board.

Refering to the problem with the main sheet falling out of the cleat. The only reason for this I can think of would be that sometimes the springs inside the harken 150 cleats break so one jaw is lazy. If you unbolt the cleat you can pry off the red plastic bottom to access the springs. They are easy to replace but can be hard to obtain. See you local harken dealer.

cheers
Bill
