I have an '82 in pretty good shape and I would like to use it with my young family. The wing seats that Sitnsail have look good to me, particularly because they don't require alteration of the boat itself. According to the promos, they bolt on with specific hardware fitted at the castings and, according to the promos, do not stress the structure of the boat to the point that cracks develop. No holes to drill.

Two questions:

1) Does anyone have experience with these?

2) The people marketing SitnSail do not ship to Canada. Assuming the product meets appropriate standards, can Hobie make dealership arrangements where the product can be ordered through a local Hobie dealer?

It seems like an accessory that has definite potential, particularly for people like myself

Peter:

Picked up the SitnSail wing seats for my 1978 H16 this season.
we love 'em!
They're very easy to use, comfortable, and the service we have rec'd from the company has been outstanding.

So, yes, I guess you could say I do endorse them!

As far as your other situation goes, I have no idea...

Fair Winds,

Nick

I also have an 82 H-16. I bought the SitnSail wings last year. They are great!! Do what ever you need to to get a pair to Canada.

A couple of things to keep in mind should you get a pair of the SitnSail wing seats.

NUMBER ONE: When you are attaching the seats to the brackets on your boat, HAND TIGHTEN as far as you can go BEFORE you use any kind of wrench. It is VERY easy to cross thread and hand tightening is the best way to prevent this from happening. I learned this from experience!!

Number two: The rubberized paint on the seats is very susceptible to scratching and rubbing off. Be careful of bumping, scraping, dragging, or you'll be repainting them soon. An alternative (which I plan on doing this winter) is to fashion seat covers.

Other than that, the seats are wonderful and have greatly increased our enjoyment of the H16. Sort of turns it into a turbo Getaway.

Fair Winds,

Nick

Thanx for replies. I'll work on Hobie and/or corporate policy of SitnSail. :)

I don't know the sales policy of Sit n Sail, but it is possible that there just isn't enough margin (profit) for them to sell to dealers... and then sell again to retail buyers. Dealers are welcome to buy direct. Hobie Cat will not be distributing this product due to cost and other issues.

Greetings gentlemen,

Thanks for the kind words regarding our Hobie 16 Wings. For the record, we are not affiliated with Hobie Inc. We are an independent company that manufactures wings for the Hobie 16 catamaran.

We both enjoy our Hobie's and sailing in the Long Beach, Ca harbor.

On a good reach, we can even scoot by the kite sufers!

Peter - I have sent you an email regarding our new Canadian shipping policy, effective immediately.

regards,

Raymond
