Hi all, I recently bought a Hobie 16 that had been in salt water for a while. The sellers had scraped the barnacles off but those "rings" are still left on the hull. I thought of using a small hand sander with 400 grit sandpaper. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hobie Cats are not meant to be moored in water like that. Anyway, try wet sanding with the 400 grit and then wet sand with 1000 grit. Do not dry sand anything, always wet sand. Probably going to take some patience, lots of tedious sanding. I would also check for blistering where the hulls were in water. Hope this helps.

The rings are probably gelcoat blisters, if they are raised above the surface that's what they are. Gelcoat is porous, water makes it's way in between the gelcoat and resin. It creates an acid which softens the gelcoat and blisters it.
