Hello, I fish along the GA coast in a 2021 Hobie Outback. After battling the tide (swings of 7-9Ft are common) for the last few years, I have decided to start researching electric motors. I can find info on power and speed for different models. However, everything I have seen is measured on still water. Does anyone have experience using a motor to go against strong tides? Is it even worth it?

I would want a stern mounted motor. I fly fish so can't have a trolling motor in front of me. Also looking for a motor that can be easily attached/detached.

Thank you

I frequently fish tidal rivers with Bixpy motor mounted on the stern of a 2022 Outback. When the current is strong, I can use the motor and the mirage drive to work against it. IMO the Bixpy was a worthwhile expense.

Jeepster, Thank you for the reply. May I ask where you live? Here in GA our tides are no joke. Today for example, it is a 7 ft swing. As opposed to someplace like Oregon Inlet NC, which has a 2.5Ft tide swing.

I fish in Virginia, specifically the Chesapeake bay and its tributaries. The tides you fish against might be tough to overcome for any significant time period with anything battery powered. A 100 amp hr lithium system will advertise as giving you 2+hrs at full throttle but as they say” your actual experience may vary”, lol.

Jeepster, Thanks for the follow-up information. Most of the puts ins are around 3/4 of a mile against current. Figured just need the motor to get through that portion. Then use the current and peddles.
